Key Information

Reading

We ask that our children read to an adult daily. Please record your child’s daily reading in their reading diary so that we can see how they are getting on.

We welcome volunteers to listen to readers. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you would like to support us with this.

Each day the children are able to move their names up on the reading chart to show that they are reading at home.

It is important for the children to bring in their reading folder each day.

PE

Tuesday is Indoor PE for 2W and 2D

Wednesday is outdoor PE for 2D

Thursday is outdoor PE for 2W

Children will require a PE kit for both indoors and outdoors. If possible a tracksuit or jogging bottoms will be useful when we are outdoors. Plimsoles are suitable for indoor PE and if possible trainers are suitable for outdoor PE. Thank you.

Term 1 - we have a PE coach coming in each Tuesday to support the children with running techniques.

Homework

Each term the children will bring home homework related to the current topic. We include Maths and English as a focus. Homework is a fun extension of what we are covering throughout the term in class. Homework should be returned to school by the end of the term. We share homework and celebrate the lovely work that has been achieved.

Class Dojo

Every child has a class dojo. This is a super way to keep in touch with the class teacher and allows you to see the rewards your child is receiving in school. If you would like more information on how to sign up for Class Dojo, please speak to your child's class teacher and they will be happy to help you.

Term 1 - Land Ahoy.

Wow day this term involved the children dressing up as pirates and learning how to speak like a pirate! Shiver me timbers! The children also took part in creating their own Jolly Rogers flags as well as participating in pirate-themed PE games. We also sang sea shanties and stained paper ready for our creative writing later on in the term.
Over the next 7 weeks, some of the things the children will be doing include; drawing pirate boats in art, writing pirate related stories in English and finding out about famous sea explores in History. Savvy!

Term 1 - School Church Value - Respect

Term 2 - School church value - Trust

Paws, claws and whiskers.

Throughout this busy term,  the children will be discovering fascinating facts about a range of animals to then create their very own non-chronological report. We are very lucky to have arranged the local vets Foxhall to come in and talk to the children about how to care for Chester our school rabbit.  In art and DT the children will be creating habitats for their chosen animal as well as creating a mosaic animal picture. This is going to be a WILD term!

Term 3 Church school value - Compassion

Bright Lights, big city.

What do you know about England's capital city? During this term, Year 2 will find out all about London, including its history, transport and famous landmarks. We are then going to step back in time and discover what happened in the real Fire of London. Where did it start? How did it end? We are also having a visit from Farm Kitchen who will bake bread with the children. In art, the children will be recreating famous pictures of the Great Fire of London using a variety of materials. In English, the children will have the opportunity to write their own adventure story, based in London, design information leaflets about a famous London landmark and write poetry about the Great Fire of London. Indoor PE will allow the children to develop their gymnastics skills and outdoor PE will focus on the skills required for underarm and overarm throwing.

Are you ready for the bright lights of the big city? All aboard the tour bus for an amazing time discovering the facts about London.

The countdown has begun. Are you ready for blast off?

This half term, we’ll travel through space to learn about the Solar System. We’ll investigate an alien crash site, write a newspaper report and try to find the aliens who have landed. Where could they be? We’ll make models of the Solar System and design spaceships, space buggies and space-related toys. Books and photographs will help us to learn about the first lunar landing and the astronauts who venture into space. Floor robots will be programmed to move around an alien landscape, and we will compose space sounds and dances. We’ll also explore satellite images, investigate rockets and use ICT to communicate our ideas and present our work.

It will be out of this world!
