At Chestnut Street Primary Academy, we believe mathematics is essential for helping children make sense of the world. Our curriculum develops problem‑solving, reasoning and logical thinking from the earliest years. Using a mastery approach and a Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract method, pupils build secure understanding through hands‑on experiences, visual models and abstract concepts. Daily arithmetic ensures key skills are embedded and connections between topics are understood. Lessons include challenges, support where needed and opportunities for deeper learning. As a result, children become confident mathematicians who can explain their thinking, recall key facts, use a range of representations and apply their skills independently in new situations.
