At Chestnut Street Primary Academy, we aim to inspire curiosity about the past and help children understand how history shapes the world today. Our curriculum develops chronological understanding, rich historical vocabulary and awareness of how societies and identities have evolved. From EYFS onwards, pupils explore the past through stories, enquiry and hands‑on experiences. In Key Stages 1 and 2, children investigate a wide range of periods using artefacts, visits, photographs and critical questioning. They learn to analyse evidence, form judgments and understand diverse perspectives. By Year 6, pupils have a secure understanding of significant events and individuals and confidently apply historical skills across the curriculum.
