Welcome to Year 2
In Year 2 we complete the children's journey through Key Stage One. We begin to encourage the children to become independent learners, introducing skills and strategies to help the children meet their true potential whilst supporting them with lots of hands-on learning through our inspiring and creative curriculum. In Hazel class the children take part in a variety of whole class, group and independent learning opportunities throughout the day to ensure they have a wide range of experiences both in and outside the classroom.
In May the children will have their KS1 SATs, they are required to take the Statutory government tests in Reading and Mathematics.

Reading
"Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible."
Reading is a core aspect of the Year Two curriculum.
We read regularly with the children in school and ask that our children read to an adult at home at least four times each week. Please record your child’s daily reading in their reading diary so that we can see how they are getting on.
It is important for the children to bring in their reading folder each day in order to keep their books updated and to read to an adult in school.
P.E
Year 2 PE day is Thursday (afternoon) unless we dojo home to advise of a change
Please ensure children come to school with their correct P.E kits in a suitable bag on a Monday every week. Children need both indoor and outdoor clothing and footwear in order for us to benefit fully from our P.E Lessons. Please ensure long hair is tied up and all jewellery removed. If your child cannot remove their own ear studs, please ensure you take them out on the day.
How you can support you child at home
- Read as frequently as possible with your child.
- Read to your child to model expression.
- Allow opportunities to read to a sibling, pet or teddy.
- Read comics, signs, menus, leaflets, posters, labels in supermarkets and a variety of books.
- Encourage your child to practice their weekly Spellings in spelling journal or on spelling shed (website at the bottom of the page).
- Support them to complete weekly Maths challenge, this will be sent home in their bookbags.
Trips/Visitors
In Hazel class as part of our history curriculum, we hope visit the Boston Guildhall and Boston Stump (St. Botolph's Church) in the spring Term.
