Key Information

Reading

Reading is a core aspect of the Year Two curriculum. We ask that our children read to an adult at home at least three times each week. Please record your child’s daily reading in their reading diary so that we can see how they are getting on. We welcome volunteers to listen to readers. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you would like to support us with this.

It is important for the children to bring in their reading folder each day in order to keep their books updated and to read to an adult in school.

PE

This term our PE sessions are as follows:

Tuesday is Indoor PE which will be supported by our sports coach.

Wednesday is outdoor PE

Children will require a PE kit for both indoors and outdoors. Now that the weather has turned a tracksuit or jogging bottoms will be needed when we are outdoors. Plimsoles are suitable for indoor PE. Trainers are preferable for outdoor PE. If you require further details, please look at the uniform section on our website.

Homework

The focus for homework for this term is based on key skills including spelling, times tables and mathematical concepts which we will cover in school. We see homework as an extension of this and a way in which you can see how your child is progressing in school. Each child will receive a homework book with further details of the tasks they are required to complete.

Our Church School Value

This term our core value is COMPASSION. We will be thinking about ways in which we are compassionate to each other and others in our community. This will be especially important as we pause for Remembrance Day and in our lead up to Christmas. Our daily worship will reflect our value.

Term 3 - Towers, Tunnels and Turrets

We had a very exciting trip to the beginning of the term topic ... a visit to Lincoln castle.

The day was packed full of fascinating activities, including:

Shield making

Archery

Wall-walking

Dressing-up

Medieval banquet

We also found out lots of interesting facts about the castle from the experts; including when it was built and who built it!

Did you know that Lincoln Castle is only one of two castles in the country with two keeps? We can’t wait to put all the things we have found out into out topic work! We will be using the technical vocabulary we have learnt such as keep, moat, drawbridge, gate house, bailey, great hall, ramparts, battlements, portcullis, arrow and gun loops in our English lessons too.

The book we are looking at in our Guided Reading is ‘The Conquerors’, where we will be exploring new vocabulary and discussing the text.

Our science this term is materials.  We will be testing the materials to see which could be used to make a great bridge.
