A message from Mrs Rutter:

Hello and welcome! I’m Mrs Rutter the Year 3&4 teacher at Chestnut Street Primary Academy. I’m proud to guide our pupils through their transition from Key Stage 1 to Key stage 2. This can be a daunting time for them as they move to a different area of the school building, which is a big change for all our children. I will always help them grow into resilient, independent and confident learners as they begin their Key Stage 2 journey.

Within teaching, my passion is making sure every child is valued and seen for their own strengths.  My aim is to bring the best out of all the children that I work with and to ensure our learning environment is suitable to help them learn and achieve the very best they can be as an individual child.

In school, I like all subjects. However, my favourites would be maths, PE, computing, music and science; I enjoy seeing children have the ‘light bulb’ moments when something clicks with their understanding.

I play netball outside of school and enjoy running and generally run a couple of times a week. I love teaching PE and introducing children to new skills and taking children to sports events.

I’m a big Lincoln City supporter and attend most home matches. I love the buzz of football and spending time with my football family who I have sat with for many years. I like spending quality time with my family and friends and taking our family dog Hugo for a good walk.

PE

Willow class - PE day is Monday (afternoon) unless we send a message via MCAS to advise of a change.

Please ensure the children bring their PE kit to school in a suitable bag (black shorts, red top, appropriate hoodie and joggers if needed and a pair of trainers).

Please also ensure that long hair can be tied back and any jewellery can be removed by child in lesson or before school if needed. This will include removing earrings.

Reading

Throughout year 3 and 4 the children are expected to read both at home and school. I will provide the children opportunities to read in class, and I would encourage reading at home to an adult 3 times per week if possible. Please log any reading activity in their reading records and I will encourage this while in school.

Trips/ Visitors

In Year 3/4 we learn about the Romans and the children will experience a trip to Lincoln Castle to develop their learning further.

As part of our local study of Ruskington, we will begin to explore the village and attend church for school events

Swimming will begin for all children in Willow class. This will be confirmed nearer the time we are going.

Home learning

Homework will be set each week for all children to complete. Homework will be set on a Wednesday and due back the following Monday.

The expectation is that homework is presented neatly as if it was work completed in school. Ideally, no highlighters of felt pens to be used unless directed by the task. The children should use a pencil is possible
