Welcome to Year 4/5
Year four/five continues to build on the independence of your child as a learner.
For our year 5’s, it will be developing their independence as learners and exploring a new curriculum with many exciting topics to explore and concepts to learn. For our year 4’s, this is the year in which the multiplication check takes place. The year 4 children will be tested on 25 multiplication questions, and they will have 6 seconds to work out and type the answer in. We recommend a strong focus on times tables practice, this could be on paper, using TT Rockstars, Hit the Button (see link below) or by just calling out random tables as your child is doing activities around the house. Although only the year 4’s will be taking their multiplication check practice, we still encourage the year 5’s to continue developing and practicing their times tables for ongoing support.
School Values
Term 1 - Humility
Term 2 - Trust
Term 3 - Compassion

Reading
Throughout the year the children will be expected to read daily both in school and at home. We will discuss what they have been reading together, they can independently log their activity in their reading records.
P.E
PE will be on a Wednesday unless we send a message via MCAS to advise of a change.
Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit and trainers for the lesson. Long hair should be tied up and all jewellery removed. If your child cannot remove their own ear studs please ensure you take them out on the day.
Home learning
They will also be set weekly homework on a Wednesday and due in on a Monday. This will be sent home as a paper copy, and they will be given a homework book to do the work in. This will also include their spellings for the week. Spellings will be set on spelling shed each week (website at bottom of the page). Homework should be presented neatly as it would be done in school - no pens unless the homework says to use one.
Trips/Visitors
In Elm class, we will have a visit to the Brayford in Lincoln to explore more about Lincolnshire as part of our history and geography units.
We welcome volunteers to come and listen to readers, please contact the school office if you wish to support in this.
