Curriculum
At Ruskington Chestnut Street CofE Primary Academy children learn through relevant experiences that link around carefully chosen themes and each theme is used as a vehicle for delivering the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) development statements in a creative and meaningful way, enabling them to grow.
The children are able to make connections between all their learning and also still meet the individual requirements of different subjects as outlined in the National Curriculum/EYFS. We endeavour to foster a life-long love of learning, through adopting a highly practical and cross-curricular approach, via our vision - Care - Believe - Grow.

Remote Education
There is an expectation that schools have plans in place to deliver remote education where pupils are unable to attend school for reasons that require either full or partial school closure.
Typically ‘remote education’ is used to describe situations where pupils are being taught remotely in their own homes rather than at school in a classroom. However, ‘remote education’ may also include situations where a teacher is working remotely and teaching a class of pupils at school, e.g. the teacher is teaching from home because they are unable to be in school, during the COVID-19 pandemic this may have been because they were self-isolating or shielding.
‘Remote education’ is often used to refer to teaching and learning that takes place online using Microsoft Teams (MS Teams). However, it also covers teaching and learning using hard copy resources such as text books and worksheets.
‘Blended learning’ refers to learning that involves a combination of face-to-face teaching and remote education which may be delivered online or through hard copy resources. This is the approach which we have found in the past to be most beneficial.
We may choose asynchronous materials provided through the Oak National Academy to compliment our remote teaching offer. Oak National Academy has been designed specifically to be used without the live presence of a teacher.
At Chestnut Street C of E Primary Academy our remote learning plan aims to ensure that children working from home continue to access the broad and balanced curriculum they world usually access in school.
During live lessons, we expect 100% attendance. We deliver live lessons using the MS Teams platform and can provide both devices and data plans to ensure that all children have access. During live lessons a register will be taken and any children who are not logged in will be contacted by the school. Attending remote lessons is just as important as lesson in school. We aim to ensure that children are not disadvantaged in any way by school being closed. We really do value families supporting this.
All work set will take into account children's age, development needs and academic ability. All children will have the opportunity to connect and receive 'live in the moment' teaching, as well as recorded content and tasks set on MS Teams for children to complete and hand back in.
During remote education safeguarding we will always be at the heart of what we do and arrangements will be in place to protect children and young people where there are safeguarding concerns. Teachers who become aware of child protection concerns will follow our school’s established safeguarding procedures.
If there is ever a time that school cannot open due to events such as snow making it unsafe for people to travel or wider school closures such as we saw during the Covid-19 Pandemic, we will revert to a remote learning plan.
In addition to the curriculum led learning we will also offer pastoral support for our pupils and families.
