Welcome to Year 4
Year Four continues to build on the independence of your child as a learner. This is the Year in which the Multiplication check takes place. All children will be tested on 25 multiplication questions they will have 6 seconds to work out and type the answer in. We recommend a strong focus on times tables practice, this could be on paper, using TT Rockstars, Hit the Button (see link below) or by just calling out random tables as your child is doing activities around the house.
School Values
Term 1 - Honesty
Term 2 - Trust
Term 3 - Compassion
Term 4 - Respect
Term 5 - Forgiveness
Term 6 - Perserverance
Reading
Throughout the year the children will be expected to read daily both in school and at home, this may be their Accelerated Reader book or a book for pleasure. We will discuss what they have been reading together, they can independently log their activity in their reading records.
P.E
PE will be on a Thursday (afternoon) unless we dojo home to advise of a change.
Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit and trainers for the lesson. Long hair should be tied up and all jewellery removed. If your child cannot remove their own ear studs please ensure you take them out on the day.
Home learning
They will also be set weekly homework, this will be sent home as a paper copy, they will be given a homework book to do the work in, this will also include their spellings for the week. Spellings will be set on spelling shed each week (website at bottom of the page). Homework should be presented neatly as it would be done in school - no pens unless the homework says to use one.
Trips/Visitors
In Silver Birch we will have a visitor in the first term of a Roman warrior, who teaches us about life as a Roman solider.
In the past we have also had zoom calls with mountaineers.
Silver Birch will be swimming after Christmas.
