Miss S Wright
Mrs S Hudson
In our Year 3 class we aim to create independent learners who strive to meet their true potential whilst knowing that they have the full support of all of the adults and their friends to achieve that.
The children will take part in many different learning opportunities to ensure they have a wide range of experiences both in and outside the classroom.
We always welcome parent helpers in our classes so feel free to get in contact and we will find some time for you to come in and see what we are up to.
Year 3 will be looking at Athletics this term and will be working with our Sports apprentice, Mr Saville.
Term 1 Church School Value - Honesty
The class will be able to explore the value of Honesty and discuss this within our assemblies and also within our PSHE. The children will work together to create a class charter and learn to respect those within our class, school and the wider community.
Term 1 - Stone Age to Iron Age
Throughout this topic we will be learning how the Stone Age people lived and what this looked like. The children will be basing their English writing on a book called Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. The children will have the opportunity to imagine what it was like to be a child growing up in the Stone Age. The other text we will use is How to wash a woolly mammoth by Michelle Robinson and Kate Hindley. The children will learn how to follow a set of instructions to create their own woolly mammoth and also develop those skills to create their own set of instructions, focusing on using imperative verbs.
RE - Term 1
Our RE will focus on the religion - Hinduism. We are very lucky to have the wonderful Sunita coming in to school towards the end of the term to immerse the children in a day of Rangoli art and Bollywood dancing. This will be an exciting opportunity to dress up in the beautiful Hindu clothing and share with Sunita what they have been learning.
During the first term the children will be developing their Athletic skills. We are very lucky to have our sports apprentice to support us. Welcome to Chestnut Street Jack.
Children will be required to come in full kit on their PE day. As the weather gets warmer please ensure children come with a water bottle every day, they may need a sun hat and sun cream but they may also need a waterproof jacket! We love the Great British weather!
Our PE day this term is a Thursday.
Other important information:
Throughout our Science this term we will be focusing on rocks and soil. The children will have the opportunity to use scientific language to describe the properties of the rocks. We look forward to getting our hands dirty when we look at and compare soil types.
ART - The focus this term will be on shading and how to use the different pencils to create shading on a picture. The children will have a go at drawing rocks and shading them to show their understanding of this technique. We will also be using natural materials, including sticks, rocks and berries to have a go at Cave painting.
