Welcome to Year 5 and 6

Years 5 and 6 are the final years of primary school and we continue to build on the independence of your child as a learner and as a citizen of our local community.

As we head towards secondary school choices, we prepare the children for transition and ensure they have the basic key skills to support them for their next journey.

The Year 6 children are required to take the Statutory government tests.

Church School values

Term 1 - Honesty

Term 2 - Trust

Term 3 - Compassion

Term 4 - Respect

Term 5 - Forgiveness

Term 6 - Perserverance

Reading

Over the course of the year the children are expected to read in both school and home. The children are encouraged to read a range of texts, these can be their Accelerated Reader book, or a book of their choice for pleasure. The children are responsible for logging their reading activity in their reading diary.

PE

PE will take place on Monday afternoons. If this changes, a dojo will be sent as well as children informed.

Please ensure children to bring their school PE kit in a suitable bag (black shorts, red top, appropriate hoodie and joggers if needed, and trainers). Please ensure that long hair is tied up and any jewellery is removed.

Home learning

Each week both year groups are set weekly homework. This will be sent home as a paper copy to be completed in their green homework books.

Spellings are also set on Spelling shed on a weekly bases.

Spelling are set Tuesday afternoons - we complete Hive game Tuesday.

Homework is set on Wednesday due in on the following Monday.

The expectation is that homework is presented neatly as if it was work completed in school. No felt tips or highlighters to be used unless directed by task.

Trips/ visitors

In Year 5/6 we learn about World War 2 and we have a school trip to the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln.

As part of our local study of Ruskington, we will be going out into our village and possibly a little further to our local city, Lincoln.

Occasionally, we have had online zoom calls with well known authors.
