    Online Safety at Our School

The online world is an exciting place for children and adults to learn, play and explore. However, just like in the real world, it’s important to be aware of potential risks so that everyone can stay safe and behave responsibly. At Chestnut Street Primary Academy, we teach our children the importance of being safe online through our computing lessons and our PSHE lessons. The children are taught how to be responsible citizens when using technology and importance of keeping personal data personal.

You can click on the following links, which will show you and your child how to keep yourselves safe and enjoy using the Internet.

    Staying Safe

Below are our key guidelines to help our children and families enjoy the internet safely:

Top Tips for Staying Safe Online

    1. Keep personal information private
Never share details such as your address, phone number, school name or email online.

    2. Think before you post
Only share photos or videos that you are happy for others to see. Once something is online, it can be copied or shared by anyone.
    3. Use strong privacy settings
Check and update your privacy settings regularly to control who can see your information.
    4. Protect your passwords
Keep your passwords secret and never share them with friends.
    5. Only talk to people you know
Avoid chatting or messaging with strangers online.
    6. Never arrange to meet someone you’ve only met online
If someone suggests meeting up, tell a parent or trusted adult straight away.
    7. Remember people online may not be who they say they are
Be cautious and use your judgement.
    8. Be kind and respectful
Think carefully about your words before posting. You don’t have to agree with everyone, but always be polite.
    9. Report anything that makes you feel uncomfortable
If something worries you, leave the website, close the device if needed, and speak to a trusted adult immediately.
